Club World Cup: Al Ahly are capable of qualifying from the group stage – Ex-Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson
Former Kaizer Chiefs coach, Cavin Johnson, beleives Al Ahly have what it takes to progress beyond group stage ahead of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
The Egyptian giants have been housed in Group A alongside Inter Miami, FC Porto and Palmeiras.
Johnson, who previously worked with the Egyptian club as an assistant under Pitso Mosimane, has highlighted several key factors he believes could help Al Ahly progress beyond the group stage.
“I always follow Al Ahly or try to read the news of their matches, in my opinion, the team is capable of qualifying from the group stage of the Club World Cup and be on top of the group,” Johnson said to 365scores.
“They have signed many good players. I think Mahmoud Trezeguet will be the team’s star in this tournament and will be a very strong addition to Al Ahly in the coming period due to his extensive experience in European stadiums and with the Egyptian national team.
“I also really like the performance of Imam Ashour and striker Wissam Abu Ali,” he added.
Al Ahly are scheduled to face Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami on June 15, followed by tough clashes against Brazilian giants Palmeiras and Portuguese powerhouse FC Porto.
The Red Devils safely arrived in the United States of America on Thursday night for the tournament. They are expected to continue with their preparation before their opening game.
