Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi has shared his delight following his side’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Real Madrid in the semi-final of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Speaking after the match on Wednesday, the Moroccan international opened up about his departure from Real Madrid in 2020, clarifying that the decision to leave the Spanish giants was not his own.
“I didn’t make the decision to leave Real Madrid,” Hakimi told DAZN. “It wasn’t in my hands — it was a decision taken by the management or coaching staff at the time.”
Now flourishing at PSG, Hakimi spoke positively about his current role under manager Luis Enrique, highlighting the freedom he enjoys on the pitch.
“I’m happy here because they let me do what I love — play and have fun,” he said. “The coach has given me the confidence and liberty to push into midfield and drop back into defense, which really suits my style of play.
“Honestly, I’m very happy with this team and I cherish every moment I spend on the field.”
PSG will face Chelsea in the Club World Cup final on Sunday at the MetLife Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 19:00 GMT.
