Victor Wanyama’s anticipated move to Club Brugge in the Jupiler Pro League ultimately fell through, despite an agreement between the Kenyan midfielder and the Belgian club. Several factors reportedly influenced the player’s decision, including concerns stemming from the tragic death of Emiliano Sala.
Club Brugge had accepted Tottenham Hotspur’s offer of €10 million plus €5 million in potential bonuses. However, complications arose as the transfer was being arranged. Just as the club organized a private jet for Wanyama, he reportedly refused to travel, allegedly due to safety concerns following Sala’s accident in the English Channel, according to Het Nieuwsblad.
In addition, Wanyama’s family advised him against signing with Brugge, claiming they had never heard of the club before. The player himself requested a one-year contract extension, adding further conditions.
Faced with these repeated stipulations, Club Brugge grew hesitant and ultimately turned their attention to Colombian defender Éder Balanta. As a result, Wanyama remained at Tottenham, postponing any move away from the Premier League for the time being.
