Club Brugge close in on PSG duo Samba Coulibaly and Elijah Ly after academy exit

Club Brugge are set to strengthen their reputation as one of Europe’s leading talent developers by signing highly rated Paris Saint-Germain academy prospects Samba Coulibaly and Elijah Ly, according to reports from L’Équipe.

The Belgian champions are expected to complete deals for the two 18-year-olds after both opted to leave the French giants in search of clearer pathways to senior football. Their arrivals would mark another significant recruitment success for Club Brugge, whose model of nurturing young players before launching them onto the European stage continues to attract some of the continent’s brightest prospects.

PSG academy stars choose new challenge

Coulibaly, an imposing central defender regarded as one of PSG’s standout youth talents, rejected a professional contract offered by the Ligue 1 champions. The teenager is understood to have prioritised regular first-team opportunities over remaining in Paris, despite being viewed as one of the academy’s most promising defenders.

The young centre-back enjoyed a strong reputation within PSG’s youth setup and was highly rated by academy director Yohan Cabaye. However, with competition for places fierce at the Parc des Princes, Coulibaly has elected to continue his development in Belgium.

Ly is also heading for Club Brugge after PSG decided not to offer the winger a professional contract. The French Under-17 international, who has earned two caps for his country, impressed throughout the season with his attacking output and consistency.

The Pontoise-born forward featured in 24 matches across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing three assists. Three of those strikes came in the UEFA Youth League, underlining his ability to perform on the European stage.

Although their futures now lie in Belgium, both Coulibaly and Ly leave Paris after playing key roles in one of the academy’s landmark achievements.

The pair were members of the PSG side that lifted the prestigious Gambardella Cup, helping the club secure the famous French youth trophy for the first time since 1991. Their contributions during the successful campaign further enhanced their growing reputations and attracted interest from clubs looking to invest in emerging talent.

Their departures also continue a wider exodus from PSG’s academy this summer. Fellow teenager Pierre Mounguengue has already completed a move to Dynamo Kyiv, with several young players opting to pursue senior opportunities elsewhere rather than remain in the shadow of the club’s star-studded first team.
