Club Africain reach full agreement to sign Yassine Meriah
Former Tunisia international set to join after Espérance contract expires
Club Africain have reached a full agreement to sign central defender Yassine Meriah, with the former Tunisia international expected to join the club’s training sessions once his move becomes official.
The defender, whose contract with Espérance de Tunis expires at midnight, is set to become a Club Africain player from 1 July, when the transfer can be formally announced.
Meriah has emerged as Club Africain’s latest defensive addition as the club looks to strengthen its options at the heart of the back line ahead of the new season.
The 32-year-old became available after Espérance opted not to renew his contract this summer, paving the way for a move to one of the club’s domestic rivals.
Although an agreement between the two parties has already been reached, Club Africain must wait until 1 July before confirming the transfer publicly because Meriah remains under contract with Espérance until the end of the day.
Once the agreement is officially completed, the experienced defender is expected to report for training and begin preparations with his new teammates.
Club Africain strengthen central defence
Meriah identified as defensive reinforcement
Club Africain had prioritised signing an experienced central defender and have now secured the services of Meriah after reaching a full agreement with the player.
His arrival is expected to bolster the club’s defensive options as preparations continue for the upcoming campaign.
The move follows the expiry of his contract with Espérance, where he was informed that his deal would not be extended beyond the current season.
Official announcement expected from 1 July
Contract expiry clears path for transfer
Although the agreement has already been finalised, Club Africain cannot officially unveil Meriah until 1 July because he remains contractually tied to Espérance until midnight.
Once that deadline passes, the club will be free to confirm the signing, with the defender expected to immediately link up with the squad for training.
The transfer will mark the next chapter in Meriah’s career after the end of his spell with Espérance de Tunis.
