In the kickoff of the Tunisian Premier League’s championship group, ES Sahel settled for a goalless draw against Club Africain at the Stade Taieb Mhiri on Wednesday.
Despite having both home advantage and a supportive crowd, ES Sahel couldn’t capitalize on their opponent’s numerical disadvantage after Club Africain’s Bassam Srarfi was shown a straight red card during injury time of the first half for a violent tackle.
However, even with a player down, Club Africain managed to hold their ground against their opponents, closing down all avenues leading to their goal with a solid defensive display and relying on counter-attacks.
The match saw a relatively modest performance from both teams, with the standout being the goalkeeping prowess of Sabri Ben Hassine (ES Sahel) and Mouez Hassen (Club Africain), as they thwarted the few dangerous attempts on goal.
With this draw, ES Sahel and Club Africain are level on two points each in fourth and fifth place, respectively, in the championship group standings.
Meanwhile, in another fixture at the same time, Union Monastir played out a goalless draw against visiting side Etoile du Sahel in the same round.
Etoile du Sahel now sits in second place with four points, trailing behind Union Monastir, who has accumulated three points.
At the top of the championship group standings is Esperance Tunis with six points after their 2-0 victory over ES Tunis on Tuesday.
The Tunisian Premier League this season is divided into two phases.
The first phase featured 16 teams divided into two groups of eight, with the top four teams from each group advancing to the second phase (championship group) to determine the league winner.
