Claudio Echeverri could leave Manchester City again as three clubs show interest

Manchester City are preparing to send Claudio Echeverri out on loan for a fourth time before the summer transfer window closes, with Benfica, Real Betis and Sheffield United among the clubs monitoring the Argentina midfielder.

The 20-year-old is not expected to be included in Manchester City’s first-team squad for the current season. Instead, the club are considering another temporary move to ensure Echeverri continues to receive regular competitive football in Europe.

Echeverri spent the second half of last season on loan at Girona. He has also previously had a loan spell with Bayer Leverkusen, while his development initially continued at River Plate after Manchester City completed his signing.

According to Tribuna, Manchester City’s preference is to find another club where the playmaker can play consistently rather than remain on the fringes of the first-team group. The English champions are currently assessing the proposals they have received before deciding on the next stage of the midfielder’s development.

There has been no final decision on Echeverri’s next destination. Benfica, Real Betis and Sheffield United have all shown concrete interest in signing the former River Plate player, but the choice of club has yet to be confirmed.

Manchester City’s priority is to place Echeverri with a team capable of offering him regular, competitive minutes. The club believe continued playing opportunities in Europe are important for the progression of one of the most promising young talents to emerge from Argentine football.

Echeverri joined Manchester City in the winter of 2024 after establishing himself as one of River Plate’s leading prospects. Following the transfer, he remained with River Plate on loan until the end of 2024 before moving on to further temporary spells.

His latest potential departure would therefore represent another stage in a carefully managed development pathway. Manchester City are weighing the available options rather than committing immediately to any of the interested clubs, with the midfielder’s playing time expected to be the decisive factor.

The club’s current position means Echeverri is unlikely to feature as part of the senior squad during the campaign unless circumstances change before the transfer window shuts.
