The gesture of unfair play of the day unfolded during the match between DR Congo and Libya at the Martyrs stadium in Kinshasa. The game ended in a 0-0 draw, and Claude Leroy, the head coach of the Leopards, displayed his frustration by not shaking hands with his Libyan counterpart.
Clearly displeased with the result, the French coach stormed straight to the locker room without acknowledging Abed Alhafid Erbish, the Moroccan coach of the Knights of the Mediterranean. Leroy’s anger stems from the missed penalty opportunity in the game, taken by striker Dioko Kaliyutuka, which could have been a crucial turning point for DR Congo.
As a consequence of the draw, DR Congo drops points in the race for the World Cup qualification, currently standing in 3rd place behind Cameroon (who played against Togo) and Libya, the opponent in the match. The frustration and disappointment of the Leopards’ coach were evident in his refusal to engage in the customary post-match handshake.
