Meet Chuku Chuku, the 2015 AFCON Mascot!
The 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, set to take place in Equatorial Guinea, has unveiled its official mascot: Chuku Chuku — a vibrant squirrel standing proudly with both hands raised and one foot on the tournament’s official ball.
Chuku Chuku follows in the footsteps of previous AFCON mascots:
Takuma, the elephant mascot from the 2013 edition in South Africa.
Gaguie, a giant gorilla representing both Equatorial Guinea and Gabon in the 2012 co-hosted tournament — whose statue still stands in front of Malabo Stadium.
As for the official match ball, it’s named Marhaba, meaning “Welcome” in Arabic. Originally intended for Morocco (the initial host before their withdrawal due to Ebola fears), Marhaba now becomes part of the Equatoguinean AFCON narrative.
Together, Chuku Chuku and Marhaba aim to bring color, warmth, and identity to this much-anticipated tournament.
