AC Milan forward Christopher Nkunku has opened up on the pain of missing the 2022 World Cup and his determination to make Didier Deschamps’ France squad for the 2026 edition.
The French attacker suffered an untimely injury before Qatar, denying him the chance to live what he calls every player’s biggest ambition.
“It was sad. For every footballer, playing in a World Cup is a dream. Now I have to work to make it happen. France is very strong: we could have three teams and they would all be competitive to win, because we have well-functioning youth academies.”
Nkunku knows the competition for places is fierce and that reputation alone will not earn him a ticket to North America. He believes the only way to convince Deschamps is to deliver consistently for the Rossoneri in the decisive months of the Serie A season.
His recent form, with five goals in his last six games, suggests he is hitting his stride at just the right time and could extend this impressive run.
For Nkunku, every match with Milan is now a step toward rewriting his World Cup story in 2026.
