Christopher Ibayi to depart AC Ajaccio for Switzerland

AC Ajaccio has confirmed the departure of striker Christopher Ibayi, who is set to leave the Corsican club after a year-long stint.

The 29-year-old Congolese forward, who joined Ajaccio in January 2024, will transfer to a new club, reportedly in Switzerland, as local media sources indicate.

Ibayi’s exit comes a year and a half before the conclusion of his contract with the club. His time at AC Ajaccio was marked by a challenging first season, where he managed only two goals in 19 Ligue 2 appearances.

However, his overall contribution improved in the following months, with the Congolese international scoring eight goals in 36 matches for the club.

Arriving on a free transfer from FC Rouen (National) in January 2024, Ibayi had hoped to make a significant impact at Ajaccio, but his struggles in the early part of his tenure were evident.

Despite this, the club’s decision to transfer him appears to offer a financial boost, particularly important as AC Ajaccio continues its search for a potential buyer.

Currently, AC Ajaccio sits 16th in the Ligue 2 BKT standings after 19 matches, a position that leaves them facing an uncertain future in the league.

The departure of Ibayi may signal a shift in the club’s efforts to strengthen their squad in the hopes of climbing the standings, while also improving their financial outlook through player sales.

Ibayi’s move to Switzerland could offer him a fresh start, while Ajaccio will now look to fill the void left by the striker and address their ongoing challenges both on and off the pitch.
