Christophe Dugarry slams Rayan Cherki hype despite Manchester City heroics
Former France forward Christophe Dugarry has once again questioned the growing praise around Rayan Cherki, even as the Manchester City midfielder continues to light up the Premier League.
Cherki delivered another standout display in City’s 3-0 win over Chelsea, registering two assists and helping shift the match decisively in Pep Guardiola’s favour after a tight first half at Stamford Bridge.
While English pundits have hailed the 22-year-old as a game-changer, Dugarry is far from convinced. “He’s different from whom? What is Cherki’s style? Are the others blind? Are they clowns? Who is this guy different from?” he asked, pushing back on the idea that Cherki deserves special treatment.
Dugarry went further, questioning whether Cherki is truly ahead of other young attacking talents. “Why should we treat him differently? Is he better than Olise, is he better than Doue? Is he better than Barcola?” he continued, insisting the midfielder must bring more substance to his game.
“We need to stop thinking that every time he touches the ball, it’s a one-man show… He needs to be more efficient in his game,” Dugarry added, noting that Guardiola himself has demanded more pressing and work without the ball in line with modern football demands.
