The Ivory Coast Football Federation (FIF) has confirmed the appointment of former national team midfielder Christian Romaric as assistant coach of the Ivorian national team. Romaric, who had an accomplished playing career with the Elephants and FC Sevilla, will now bring his experience to the coaching staff.

In a statement released on Tuesday, November 12, the FIF expressed their confidence in Romaric’s appointment, highlighting his wealth of knowledge in Ivorian football.

The former playmaker is set to collaborate with head coach Emerse Faé in preparing for the qualifiers for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and working on strengthening the local team.

Romaric’s role will primarily focus on helping the national team prepare for the upcoming CHAN qualifiers, where the objective is to secure qualification for the tournament’s final stage.

The Ivorian side will also aim to surpass their previous performance, having reached the quarter-finals in the last edition of the tournament before being eliminated by Algeria in a narrow 1-0 defeat.

Romaric, who has been active in coaching since his retirement, brings significant experience at the local level, having worked with clubs such as Zoman, AFAD Djékanou, and SOL d’Abobo.

His deep understanding of Ivorian football, particularly at the grassroots and local club level, is seen as an asset to the team.

The FIF emphasized that Romaric’s expertise and commitment will support Faé’s efforts to help the A’ team progress and develop Ivorian players currently playing domestically.

The CHAN qualifiers are set to resume with the second round on December 20, with the first leg matches scheduled for that date.

The final tournament is slated to take place from February 1 to 28, 2025.

Romaric’s task will be to ensure the team is well-prepared to meet these challenges and push for a spot in the tournament’s later stages.

Romaric’s appointment marks an important step in the Ivorian Football Federation’s ongoing efforts to develop local talent and build a strong squad for the 2025 edition of the African Nations Championship.

With his background and knowledge, Romaric is poised to make a valuable contribution to Ivory Coast’s national team ambitions.
