Cameroon striker Christian Kofane praises David Pagou’s humility and authority
Christian Kofane has praised the leadership and personality of David Pagou, describing the Cameroon head coach as a humble figure who has earned the respect of his players through his approach to management.
Speaking in an interview with Talents d’Afrique, the Bayer Leverkusen striker offered insight into the working style of the man currently in charge of the Indomitable Lions.
His remarks provide a rare glimpse into the internal dynamics of the Cameroon national team under Pagou’s leadership.
“The coach is a humble man. I don’t know if you’ve seen his press conferences, but it’s the same in the locker room,” Kofane began, highlighting the consistency in Pagou’s behaviour both in public and behind closed doors.
The forward went on to underline what he considers one of the coach’s defining strengths — his ability to manage personalities within the squad.
“He knows when to support you and when to give you a good talking-to. He’s a real character,” he added.
Pagou, who took charge of Cameroon in September 2025, has overseen a period of transition, working with a relatively young squad.
Despite that, he guided the team to the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco, a result that reflected both the team’s potential and the coach’s influence.
Kofane’s comments suggest that Pagou’s impact extends beyond tactical decisions, with emphasis placed on his personal connection with players and his ability to maintain discipline within the group.
The striker’s testimony points to a leadership style built on balance — combining encouragement with authority.
Such qualities appear to have helped foster cohesion within the squad, particularly important for a team blending emerging talents with established internationals.
While results on the pitch remain the ultimate measure, the environment created off it is increasingly viewed as a crucial factor in Cameroon’s development.
As the national team continues its evolution under Pagou, endorsements from players like Kofane offer a strong indication of the trust placed in the coach’s methods and vision.
