Zamalek coach Christian Gross reflected on his side’s tough 3-0 defeat to Pyramids in the Egyptian Nile League on Friday, admitting the loss was a hard pill to swallow.
Despite controlling the first half and having chances to take the lead, the Swiss tactician highlighted the team’s loss of organization after Pyramids scored, resulting in a damaging second-half collapse.
“We were the better side in the first half and had the opportunity to take the lead. In the second half, the team pushed forward aggressively and lost organization after Pyramids scored their first goal,” Gross said. “Not everything was negative, but in the end, we lost this match. We still have more games ahead, and we will fight to win them.”
Gross also commented on Ahmed Sayed “Zizo”, whose performance fell short of expectations. “Zizo is a very important player for the team but he wasn’t at his best today. It’s difficult to replace a player of his quality, even if he’s not delivering the expected performance.”
As Zamalek drops to third in the standings, Gross is determined to turn things around, insisting the club must return to winning ways immediately.
