Jordan Ayew Joins Lorient as Sylvain Ripoll Aims to Strengthen Squad
Jordan Ayew is set to continue his development at Lorient under new head coach Sylvain Ripoll, former assistant to Christian Gourcuff. In an interview with L’Equipe, Ripoll explained the club’s decision to sign the Ghanaian forward.
“Jordan is a player with great potential, a young player with a bright future ahead of him, but who, despite his youth, already has some experience,” Ripoll said. “He was in high demand. The fact that the club was able to bring him in is certainly a sign of ambition. But it also reflects a real need to strengthen our team, because we’ve lost some key players. That’s how we stay competitive.”
Lorient, often referred to as the Merlus, appears to be the ideal environment for the younger brother of André Ayew to showcase his talent and gain valuable playing time.
The transfers of Jordan Ayew and Mathieu Valbuena from Olympique de Marseille have reportedly earned the club €12 million. This influx of funds has helped offset the expenses related to their recruitment of Michy Batshuayi and Romain Alessandrini, highlighting a busy and strategic summer for Marseille in the transfer market.
