Christ Makosso: Luton Towns Congo defender linked with AJ Auxerre move
Congo centre-back Christ Makosso of Luton Town is being linked with a move to Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre as the French club assess defensive options for the new season. The 22-year-old, valued at around 800,000, is under contract at Kenilworth Road until 30 June 2029, meaning any deal would require Auxerre to negotiate a fee with the League One club.
Makosso has emerged as a regular at senior level over the past two campaigns, making 19 Championship appearances and recording one assist in his time in England so far. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Oxford United before returning to Luton at the end of June, giving him experience across both the second and third tiers of the English pyramid.
Auxerres interest comes 18 months after Luton invested 1.5 million to bring Makosso in from Belgian side RWDM in January 2025. Before his move to England, he featured in both the Jupiler Pro League and its relegation play-offs, as well as in Ligue 2 and lower divisions in France earlier in his career.
Born in Brazzaville and standing at 1.92m, Makosso has already collected silverware in England, winning the Football League Trophy with Luton in the 2025-26 season. That success, combined with his relatively long contract and recent transfer outlay, is expected to strengthen Lutons position should formal talks with Auxerre progress. For now, Makosso remains a Luton player with three years left on his deal and is due to report back to the club ahead of the new campaign unless an agreement is reached.
