Chrislain Matsima: Bayern Munich weigh move for Augsburg’s France-Congo defender
France-Congo centre-back Chrislain Matsima of Augsburg is being linked with a summer move to Bayern Munich as the Bundesliga champions assess defensive reinforcements ahead of the new season.
Bayern are monitoring the 24-year-old, who has established himself in Germany’s top flight after joining Augsburg permanently last year. The chances of a deal are currently rated at 18%, with Matsima under contract at Augsburg until 30 June 2030, meaning any negotiations would require a significant fee and agreement from a club in a strong bargaining position.
Matsima, born in Colombes and standing at 1.93m, has accumulated 48 Bundesliga appearances and two goals, experience that has put him on the radar of Bayern’s recruitment team as they look within the league for options at centre-back. He also has Europa League minutes to his name, adding to a portfolio that includes top-flight spells in both Germany and France.
Augsburg secured Matsima from Monaco in July 2025 for around €5m following an initial loan spell, during which his value rose sharply to a current estimated €22m. The Swabian club have built their back line around the right-footed defender, who wears the No 5 shirt, and will be reluctant to lose a player tied down for four more seasons.
Matsima’s market value and long-term deal mean Bayern would likely have to commit to a sizeable investment to tempt Augsburg to the table, with no formal talks yet reported and the move still at an early, speculative stage.
