Chippa United could lose star player Stanley Nwabali this summer

Chippa United head coach Thabo September has confirmed that Stanley Nwabali could leave the club during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Nigerian international, who made a significant impact at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, was previously linked with a move away from the South African side last year.

Despite signing a new three-year contract and being appointed captain, Nwabali continues to attract interest from foreign clubs.

September acknowledged the possibility of losing some key players as the club looks to build for the future.

“We will lose some players, but we will definitely keep the core. In football, to improve your team, you sell your best players and invest in young talent to try to be stable,” he said in an interview with FarPost.

The head coach emphasized that while Nwabali’s potential departure would be a loss, it is part of the club’s broader strategy to strengthen their squad by focusing on the development of younger players.

Nwabali joined Chippa United from the Nigeria Premier Football League in 2022, and his performances have since caught the attention of both domestic and international clubs.

His leadership as captain, coupled with his impressive displays for Nigeria at the continental tournament, have only increased his market value, making him a sought-after player ahead of the transfer window.

Should Nwabali leave, it would mark a significant shift for the club, which is undergoing a period of transition.

The departure of a key player like Nwabali would be seen as a step towards further rebuilding, as Chippa United looks to bring in fresh talent and continue developing their team for the seasons ahead.

While the club faces the challenge of losing a star, September’s strategy reflects a long-term vision for growth and stability in South African football.
