Chijioke Mbaoma has been crowned the top scorer in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) for the 2023-2024 season, marking a significant achievement for the young Enyimba FC striker. His stellar performance culminated on the 38th and final day of the season, earning him the prestigious Golden Boot.

Mbaoma has had an extraordinary season with Enyimba FC, playing a crucial role in the team securing third place in the league standings.

Despite a strong contention for the title, Enyimba’s campaign fell short in the closing stages. Nonetheless, Mbaoma’s contributions were pivotal throughout the season.

Following Emeka Obioma’s departure at the end of the previous season, Mbaoma stepped up as Enyimba’s leading striker.

The 21-year-old netted 17 of Enyimba FC’s 46 goals, accounting for an impressive 36.95% of the team’s total goals.

His outstanding tally was achieved over 34 appearances, cementing his position as the top scorer of the season.

In addition to the Golden Boot, Mbaoma received a reward of 3.4 million Naira.

Top 6 Scorers of the 2023-2024 NPFL Season:

  2. Sikiru Alimi (Remo Stars): 15 goals
  3. Albert Hillary (Plateau United): 12 goals
  4. Bashir Usman (Niger Tornadoes): 12 goals
  5. Godwin Obaje (Enugu Rangers): 12 goals
  6. Jonathan Olokwu (Sporting Lagos): 12 goals

Enyimba FC has established itself as a formidable force in the NPFL, particularly in producing top-tier goal scorers.

The club has consistently supplied the league’s top scorers for three consecutive seasons.

Victor Mbaoma claimed the Golden Boot in 2022, followed by Emeka Obioma in 2023, and now Chijioke Mbaoma in 2024.

This trend highlights Enyimba’s ability to nurture and develop exceptional talent.

Historically, Enyimba’s Golden Boot winners have moved on to other clubs following their successful seasons.

It remains to be seen whether Mbaoma will follow in the footsteps of his predecessors or remain with Enyimba to continue his impressive form.

His future decisions will undoubtedly be closely watched by fans and analysts alike as the club looks ahead to the next season.

Mbaoma’s achievement is a testament to his hard work and dedication, reflecting his vital role in Enyimba’s attacking prowess.

His performance this season not only highlights his individual skill but also underscores Enyimba FC’s strategic focus on fostering young talent and maintaining a competitive edge in the NPFL.

As the season concludes, the focus shifts to the next chapter in Chijioke Mbaoma’s career.

Whether he stays with Enyimba or seeks new challenges elsewhere, his Golden Boot win will remain a milestone in his burgeoning career.

The upcoming season will reveal if Enyimba can continue their trend of producing top scorers and maintain their status as a powerhouse in Nigerian football.
