Chidozie Awaziem Set for Konyaspor Move After Nantes Exit

Nigerian defender Chidozie Awaziem is set to leave FC Nantes and join Turkish side Konyaspor after the two clubs reached an agreement for his transfer, according to reports from L’Équipe and Ouest-France.

The 29-year-old centre-back will sign a contract with Konyaspor that will run until June 2028, bringing an end to his time with the French club. The transfer is expected to generate around €1 million for Nantes.

Awaziem arrived at Nantes with the aim of strengthening the club’s defensive options, but his spell at the Ligue 1 side will come to a close after the team’s relegation to the second division.

The Nigerian international had been viewed as an experienced addition to Nantes’ back line, providing defensive depth and leadership during his time at the club.

However, following the disappointment of relegation, the defender will now continue his career in Turkey.

Konyaspor’s interest in Awaziem has resulted in an agreement that will see the player move to the Turkish league, where he is expected to bring further experience to their defensive unit.

The move marks another chapter in Awaziem’s career, which has included spells in different European leagues. After arriving in France to help Nantes improve defensively, the player will now leave the club as they prepare for life in the second tier.

For Nantes, the transfer provides financial benefit as they continue to reshape their squad following their drop from Ligue 1. The expected €1 million fee from the deal will contribute to the club’s plans ahead of the new season.

Awaziem’s departure means Nantes will need to find alternatives in defence as they begin their campaign outside France’s top flight.

Meanwhile, Konyaspor will welcome a player with international experience and a background of competing at a high level in European football.

The Nigerian defender is expected to complete his move to Turkey soon, with his contract at Konyaspor keeping him at the club until 2028.
