Chico Banza denies Rwanda allegations as Zamalek pursue legal action

Chico Banza has categorically denied allegations that he was involved in an inappropriate incident with a hotel employee during Zamalek’s trip to Rwanda.

Reports had circulated about an alleged unethical act by the Angola international while the Egyptian club was in the country to face the Rwandan Army.

Zamalek said it had begun taking all necessary legal measures and would submit complaints to the relevant prosecutor’s office against everyone accused of defaming Banza.

In a statement, Banza said: “I, Chico Banza, would like to clarify my position regarding the information being circulated about allegations that I was involved in a relationship with a hotel employee in Rwanda.”

“I categorically deny the accusations made against me. I consider the information published about me to be false, and I regret the circulation of content that could damage my image, reputation and the professional career I am building through hard work, dedication and sacrifice.”

The 26-year-old added: “I am an athlete, but above all I am a human being, a son and a member of a family who deserve respect. I have a mother and a family, and I cannot accept the use of false or baseless information to harm my dignity and personal life.”

Banza also called for sporting disputes to remain separate from players’ private lives.

“Sporting competition is part of football and must remain within the boundaries of the pitch,” he said. “It is unfair for disagreements related to sport to go beyond the field and turn into attacks targeting the personal and family life of a professional.”

He confirmed that the matter had been referred to the appropriate authorities.

“This issue is being dealt with seriously and has been referred to the competent legal bodies so that the facts can be properly clarified,” Banza said.

The player said he would continue to concentrate on his work and his targets with Zamalek.

“I will continue to focus on my professional career, my work and the goals I am seeking to achieve,” he said. “I thank all the supporters, friends and members of my family, as well as everyone who has shown me their support and trust.”

Banza concluded: “The truth must prevail, respect must rise above competition, and justice must take its course.”
