Chicago Fire move is a step forward in my career – South Africa winger Puso Dithejane
South Africa winger Puso Dithejane has described his move to Chicago Fire as a step forward in his football career.
Dithejane switched to the Major League Soccer during the winter transfer window, joining from South African outfit, TS Galaxy.
The 21-year-old made his MLS debut last weekend when his team lost 2-1 to Dynamo Houston replacing his compatriot Mbekezeli Mbokazi in the Chicago Fire team, late in the game.
“This is a step forward in my career as a footballer,” said Dithejane during the Football Journalist Association (SAFJA).
Meanwhile, Dithejane is determined to earn a place in the South Africa squad for the impending 2026 World Cup tournament, to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The enterprising winger believes featuring at the global showpiece would mark the pinnacle of his football career.
“I obviously will work hard where I am in Chicago so I can be selected to be part of the 23-man squad that will play for South Africa. I want to help my country or my team do well in the World Cup.”
Dithejane signed a four-year deal that will keep him at Chicago Fire until summer 2030.
