Nigerian centre-back Chibuike Nwaiwu is rapidly establishing himself as the most prolific defender in the Turkish Super Lig, delivering standout attacking contributions for Trabzonspor.

The 21-year-old has drawn widespread attention in Turkey after an impressive start to life in the league, recording three goals and one assist in just 11 appearances.

His latest contribution proved decisive, as he scored in Trabzonspor’s 2-1 victory over Galatasaray at Papara Park.

That goal underlined his growing influence at both ends of the pitch, with Nwaiwu increasingly becoming a key figure in Trabzonspor’s push for the league title.

His ability to contribute offensively from a defensive role has added a new dimension to the team’s performances.

Nwaiwu’s statistics place him ahead of several established names playing in the Turkish top flight. He has outscored defenders such as Milan Škriniar of Fenerbahçe, as well as Davinson Sánchez and Wilfried Singo, both of Galatasaray.

The Nigerian now shares the distinction of being the league’s top-scoring defender alongside Samet Akaydın of Çaykur Rizespor, further highlighting his attacking threat in opposition penalty areas.

Having joined Trabzonspor during the winter transfer window from Wolfsberger AC for a reported fee of 5.5 million euros, Nwaiwu has adapted quickly to the demands of Turkish football.

His immediate impact has reinforced the club’s decision to invest in the young defender, who continues to deliver consistent performances.

With his confidence growing and his contributions proving decisive, Nwaiwu is quickly becoming one of the most influential defenders in the Super Lig, combining defensive solidity with a notable eye for goal.
