Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo could leave the club if his contract situation is not resolved soon, according to former goalkeeper Ben Foster.
The 19-year-old English international of Ghanaian descent currently earns £20,000 per week, far less than many of his teammates, despite his growing importance to the team.
Reports suggest that United are in talks with Mainoo’s representatives over a new deal. However, if an agreement is not reached, some clubs could look to take advantage of the situation.
Chelsea are reportedly among those monitoring him, with Foster claiming they would be willing to offer Mainoo up to £150,000 per week.
Speaking on his Fozcast podcast, Foster expressed concern that Mainoo could feel undervalued at United.
“It must really annoy Kobbie Mainoo because he must be looking around at some of the players that are on crazy wages that are nowhere near as good as him,” he said.
Mainoo’s current contract runs for another two years, with an option for an additional year. However, if an extension is not agreed upon soon, clubs like Chelsea or even Real Madrid could make a move.
“If he was at Chelsea, he’d be on £150,000 per week so that’s his argument. But then the club come at it from their perspective and go, ‘Well, you’ve still got three years left on your contract.'”
