Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel believes the club’s lack of a clinical striker is hindering its chances of competing for the Premier League title this season.
Speaking on The Obi One Podcast, Mikel highlighted the importance of having a top-tier forward to convert chances in crucial games.
“We have talked about getting another top, top striker who can win us these kinds of games—difficult games where, if Nicolas Jackson is not firing on all cylinders, you can give him a rest and then get someone else to come into the team and try to win us games and score goals,” Mikel said.
The former Nigeria captain suggested that Chelsea would be in contention for the league title if they had players like Napoli’s Victor Osimhen or Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres leading their attack.
“If we had Victor Osimhen or the guy from Sporting, Viktor Gyökeres, trust me, we’d still be competing for the Premier League,” he added.
Mikel’s remarks come as Chelsea struggles for consistency, with forward Nicolas Jackson experiencing a goal drought, failing to score in his last four Premier League outings.
Chelsea fans have been vocal about their team’s lack of a reliable striker, with many echoing Mikel’s call for reinforcements to boost the club’s attacking prowess.
