Chelsea Interested In Sporting Defender Ousmane Diomande

Chelsea are preparing for a significant squad rebuild following a disappointing campaign, with incoming head coach Xabi Alonso already identifying key transfer targets ahead of his expected arrival at the club.

The London side are aiming to strengthen several areas of the team as part of a wider plan to restore competitiveness next season, and defensive reinforcement has emerged as a priority in early discussions.

Although Alonso’s appointment is yet to be formally completed, reports suggest the Spanish coach has already outlined his vision for the squad and the type of players he wants to bring in to Stamford Bridge.

According to CaughtOffside, Alonso is keen to add experienced and consistent performers who can provide balance, leadership and stability to a squad that has struggled with inconsistency.

One of the names understood to be high on his list is Ousmane Diomande, the highly rated Sporting Lisbon centre-back who has developed into a key figure in the Portuguese side’s defence.

Diomande is regarded as a strong and technically composed defender, with attributes that are believed to fit well into Alonso’s tactical approach and Chelsea’s long-term rebuild strategy.

However, any potential move is expected to be complicated by Sporting Lisbon’s firm stance on the player. The defender signed a contract extension until June 2030 in January, placing the Portuguese club in a strong negotiating position.

As a result, Chelsea are likely to face a significant financial challenge, with reports suggesting Sporting would demand at least €60 million to consider selling one of their most important players.

Competition for Diomande’s signature is also expected to be intense, with several Premier League clubs reportedly monitoring his situation closely. European giants such as Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested, further increasing the level of competition for his services.

The 20-year-old’s rising reputation is reflected in his valuation, with Transfermarkt currently estimating his market value at around €45 million. He also earns an annual salary of approximately €4.33 million.

With Chelsea preparing for a busy transfer window under new leadership, Diomande is expected to remain one of several high-profile defensive targets as the club looks to reshape its squad for the upcoming season.
