Chelsea’s bid to re-sign former defender Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace is hitting roadblocks as the two clubs struggle to agree on terms.
Reports suggest that Chelsea is appealing to Palace for a discounted transfer fee to bring Guehi back to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues had initially hoped to include Trevoh Chalobah, currently on loan at Palace, as part of the deal. However, negotiations have not progressed as smoothly as expected.
Chelsea remains open to allowing Chalobah to join Palace on a permanent basis. Still, they aim to leverage his inclusion to secure Guehi at a reduced price.
The defender, who left Chelsea for Crystal Palace in 2021, has just 18 months remaining on his contract. Despite this, Palace is reportedly unwilling to let him go for less than their valuation, complicating Chelsea’s plans.
The urgency to strengthen their defense stems from Wesley Fofana’s ongoing injury struggles, which have left Chelsea short of options in the center-back position.
Guehi’s consistent performances and Premier League experience make him a prime target, but Palace is reluctant to sell their prized asset on the cheap.
The coming weeks will determine whether the two clubs can bridge their differences or if Chelsea will need to explore alternative defensive options.
