Papy Djilobodji Reflects on Nantes as He Embarks on Chelsea Journey
One of the summer’s surprise moves saw Papy Djilobodji sign a four-year contract with Chelsea on Tuesday, a transfer that caught many off guard. Now settled on his new path, the Senegalese defender took a moment to express his gratitude and affection for his former club, Nantes.
In an interview with Nantes’ official website, Djilobodji said:
“I’m very proud of what I did at Nantes, and very happy. I couldn’t have done better. I gave the best of myself. Even injured, I wanted to play.”
He praised the club’s staff and community, adding:
“I’ll definitely have good memories. The President, his son Franck, the people who work in the offices, the coaches, the young people at the training center… I can’t name them all, but they’ve always been there. Nantes will always be in my heart. I’ll be its first supporter. I hope you have a great season and achieve your goals.”
Looking ahead to his time at Chelsea, Djilobodji described the move as a dream realized but emphasized his determination to keep working hard.
“It’s a part of my dream that’s come true. It’s been a long road, but I’m not there yet. I have to keep working, respect everyone and show what I can do.”
The defender now aims to prove himself in the Premier League as he embarks on the next chapter of his career.
