Chelsea shut door on Rafael Leao as Turkey and Saudi clubs circle AC Milan star

Chelsea have reportedly ruled out a move for Rafael Leão, leaving clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia ready to battle for the AC Milan forward’s signature this summer.

The Portugal international is expected to leave the San Siro after signalling his desire for a fresh challenge following several seasons with the Italian giants. Despite being linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs, no concrete move has emerged for the 27-year-old attacker.

Leão has previously revealed his ambition to test himself in either the Premier League or LaLiga, but interest from those markets has failed to develop into a serious transfer pursuit.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are not considering a move for the Milan star, despite reports linking the Blues with a possible deal. The London club’s decision leaves Leão without one of the Premier League destinations he had reportedly been open to joining.

Turkey and Saudi Arabia look to capitalise

With Chelsea no longer in the picture, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are monitoring the situation and hoping to convince the winger to make a move outside Europe’s traditional elite leagues.

However, Leão’s preference remains clear: he wants to continue competing at the highest level in European football. A switch to a major Champions League contender is believed to be his priority before considering other options.

The forward has established himself as one of Milan’s most influential attacking players since joining from Lille in 2019, becoming a key figure in their Serie A title-winning campaign in the 2021/22 season.

His pace, creativity and ability to operate across the front line have made him a highly sought-after player, although his reported desire to leave Milan has yet to trigger a major European bidding war.
