The fallout from José Mourinho’s comments regarding Samuel Eto’o’s age continues to linger, with the Cameroonian striker expressing his discontent in a recent interview with AfricanFootball.com. Eto’o’s response to a question about the upcoming World Cup, potentially his last, was pointed and direct.
“Thank you for telling me that this will be my last World Cup… I am 33 years old and it is not because an idiot declared that I was old that we should believe him,” he retorted, clearly referring to Mourinho.
Indeed, Eto’o’s reference is to Mourinho’s remarks aired by Canal +, where the Chelsea manager remarked, “the problem at Chelsea is that I’m missing a scorer. I have one but he’s 32…maybe 35, who knows?”
Eto’o’s candid remarks shed light on his determination to continue playing, dismissing any notion of retirement. However, it appears increasingly unlikely that his future lies at Stamford Bridge, as tensions between him and Mourinho may irreparably strain their relationship.
