Chelsea recall Cole Palmer as Manchester United restore Bruno Fernandes for Stamford Bridge clash

Chelsea have brought Cole Palmer back into their starting XI for Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, while Bruno Fernandes returns to the visitors’ side after being left on the bench in the previous round.

Marco Balestra makes his first Premier League start for Chelsea, with Romeo Lavia coming into midfield to replace the absent Jordan Henderson. Joao Pedro misses out because of injury.

Manchester United have selected Leny Yoro at right-back, while captain Fernandes is restored to the starting line-up as manager Ruben Amorim makes notable changes for a match between two sides separated by six points in the table.

Chelsea begin the ninth-round fixture fifth in the Premier League with 13 points. Manchester United are 16th on seven points, increasing the importance of the contest for both teams.

Palmer’s return follows the completion of his suspension, with his inclusion providing Chelsea with a significant change in attack. His absence had coincided with Joao Pedro being unavailable for selection because of injury.

For United, Fernandes’ recall is the most prominent alteration after the midfielder was restricted to a substitute role during the previous league round. Yoro’s deployment on the right side of defence is another notable feature of the visitors’ line-up.
