Chelsea are reportedly preparing a bold move to re-sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, with the club lining up a deal worth £50 million plus defender Trevoh Chalobah in a bid to beat their Premier League rivals to his signature.
The west London side are eager to bring the 24-year-old back to Stamford Bridge, where he spent his formative years in football.
Guehi, who was born in Abidjan, has developed into one of the league’s most reliable centre-backs since his departure from Chelsea in 2021.
Despite making only two senior appearances for the Blues, he has flourished at Selhurst Park, earning international recognition with England and captaining Palace under Roy Hodgson and now Oliver Glasner.
According to a report by The Mirror, Chelsea are ready to step up negotiations this summer, hoping that the inclusion of Chalobah—a product of the club’s Cobham academy—will help tip the scales in their favour.
Chalobah is valued internally at around £30 million, bringing the total estimated value of the proposed package to roughly £80 million, close to Palace’s £70 million valuation of Guehi.
Liverpool and Newcastle are also said to be monitoring the situation closely.
Newcastle previously had a bid turned down last summer, but their continued interest suggests they may return with a fresh offer. Liverpool, who are expected to strengthen their defensive line ahead of a managerial change, also remain keen.
Guehi’s current contract expires at the end of the 2025–26 season, and although Palace would prefer to retain their star defender, there is growing acceptance that a sale may be inevitable.
His leadership qualities, composure on the ball, and consistent performances have made him one of the most sought-after centre-backs in the league.
