Chelsea not being clinical enough – Ex-midfielder Mikel Obi

John Mikel Obi

Former Nigeria captain and Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has expressed concerns about Chelsea’s inefficiency in front of goal this season.

Speaking on The Obi One Podcast, Mikel highlighted the team’s struggle to capitalise on chances, citing striker Nicolas Jackson’s recent dip in form as a key issue.

The 22-year-old forward, who started the season strongly, has now gone four Premier League matches without finding the back of the net, raising concerns among fans.

“We are creating chances, we are still playing well, we are still doing the right things, but we are not clinical enough. We’re not scoring goals,” Mikel said.

He emphasised the need for Chelsea to secure a proven striker who can step up in difficult matches when players like Jackson are off form.

“We have talked about getting another top, top striker who can win us these kinds of games—difficult games where, if Nicolas Jackson is not firing on all cylinders, you can give him a rest and then get someone else to come into the team and try to win us games and score goals,” Mikel explained.

He suggested that Chelsea would be in a stronger position in the Premier League if they had a forward like Napoli’s Victor Osimhen or Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres.

“If we had Victor Osimhen or the guy from Sporting, Viktor Gyökeres, trust me, we’d still be competing for the Premier League,” Mikel concluded.

The criticism comes as Chelsea continues to struggle for consistency in the league, leaving fans and analysts questioning their attacking options.
