Michael Essien has officially signed a contract with AC Milan until June 30, 2015. The Ghanaian international visited the trophy room of his new club on Monday, accompanied by Adriano Galliani, the vice-president and executive director of Milan.
José Mourinho, Essien’s former manager at Chelsea, paid tribute to the midfielder and wished him well in his new venture. Mourinho expressed his respect for Essien’s decision to join AC Milan, stating that while he would have liked to keep him at Chelsea, he understood the player’s desire for a new challenge. Mourinho described Essien as a fantastic footballer who had given his all for Chelsea and believed that Essien could continue to perform at the highest level for many years to come.
