Loaned out to Everton until the end of the season, Romelu Lukaku is unlikely to feature for Chelsea in the upcoming season. During his pre-match press conference ahead of the FA Cup clash against Manchester City, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho hinted at the club’s plans for the summer transfer window. According to Mourinho, the Belgian striker of Congolese descent, along with several other players, will not be part of Chelsea’s future plans.
“In light of players like De Bruyne who have fetched significant profits despite limited appearances, there are others within the squad who may not have featured for Chelsea and will be sold. Players like Lukaku, De Bruyne, Courtois, Thorgan Hazard, Lukas Piazon… may not all carve out careers at Chelsea, but they are valuable assets in our financial strategy. This approach ensures that even with Financial Fair Play regulations, Chelsea will remain financially strong,” Mourinho explained.
This indicates that certain players will primarily serve to generate revenue for Chelsea rather than being integral to the team’s on-field plans.
