Romelu Lukaku is gearing up for a new Premier League season, but this time he’ll be donning the blue jersey of Chelsea rather than West Bromwich Albion. Returning from loan, Jose Mourinho has plans to place significant trust in Lukaku for the upcoming season, providing an opportunity the Belgian-Congolese striker is eager not to miss.
In an interview with The Sun, Lukaku expressed his ambition to surpass the achievements of his “father, mentor, and model” Didier Drogba at Chelsea. Lukaku considers Drogba a legend and one of his best friends, akin to a father figure when he initially arrived at Chelsea. He mentioned, “Didier was one of my best friends here. He was like a father to me when I arrived at Chelsea.”
Despite their close relationship, Lukaku is determined not to be a mere clone of the Ivorian striker: “I want people to remember me as Romelu Lukaku and not as a second Drogba.” He values the feedback and support he received from Drogba but aims to create his own legacy at Chelsea.
