Chelsea interest in Lamine Camara cools as Monaco push to keep Senegal star

Chelsea’s pursuit of AS Monaco and Senegal midfielder Lamine Camara has waned considerably after negotiations between the two clubs failed to make significant progress.

The Premier League giants had appeared to be moving closer to a deal for Camara after discussions were held with Monaco late last week.

However, fresh reports suggests talks have not advanced as expected, leading to a significant reduction in the London club’s interest.

The development comes as Chelsea continue to explore alternative midfield options. RMC Sport has reported the Blues’ interest in AS Roma midfielder Manu Koné, while L’Équipe has also indicated that Chelsea have another midfielder on their list of priority targets.

For Monaco, the latest development will come as welcome news as the French club remains determined to retain one of its most highly rated young players.

Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro publicly made his position clear last week, while head coach Luís Filipe reiterated the club’s desire to keep Camara following Sunday’s victory over Marseille.

Camara started that match despite the uncertainty surrounding his future and produced an impressive performance as Monaco secured an important win over their Ligue 1 rivals.

Speaking after the game, Luís Filipe was asked about the midfielder’s future and admitted that he hopes the Senegal international remains at the club.

“I hope to keep him,” the Monaco coach said.

He went on to underline Camara’s importance to his plans, while acknowledging that anything could still happen before the transfer window closes.

“You see the player that he is – unbelievable. Until the end of the transfer window, anything can happen. Everyone hopes that he stays. He is elite,” Luís Filipe said in a press conference attended by Get French Football News.

The comments reflect Monaco’s determination to resist any late approach for Camara, particularly with the player under contract and regarded as an important part of the club’s sporting project.

For Chelsea, meanwhile, the situation remains fluid. With the transfer window closing, the Blues are continuing to assess their midfield options and could now prioritise other targets if negotiations for Camara do not resume.
