Didier Drogba Regains Iconic Number 11 Shirt at Chelsea
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba will return to wearing his famous number 11 shirt for the upcoming Premier League season, the club announced on Friday, just one day before the campaign kicks off.
Having initially taken the number 15 upon his summer return to Stamford Bridge, Drogba will now revert to his traditional squad number — a symbol of his legendary status at the club.
The number 11 has been worn by Brazilian midfielder Oscar over the past two seasons. In a gesture of respect and admiration, Oscar graciously agreed to hand the shirt back to Drogba. Speaking to the club’s official website, Oscar said: “Didier is a legend here. I’m happy to give him the number 11 and take the number of another Chelsea legend.”
Drogba expressed his gratitude: “I am happy to be able to get my number 11 back and I thank Oscar for giving me the opportunity to reclaim it.”
Oscar will switch to the number 8 shirt, previously worn by Frank Lampard, continuing the legacy of Chelsea greats in the squad.
