Besiktas Reveal Financial Details of Demba Ba Transfer from Chelsea
Turkish giants Besiktas have officially disclosed the financial terms behind the recent transfer of Senegalese striker Demba Ba from Chelsea.
In a statement released on the club’s website on Friday, Besiktas confirmed that the total cost of the deal will amount to €6 million, paid in instalments over a two-year period.
“Chelsea will receive €1.5 million immediately, another €1.5 million on 31 December 2014, followed by €1 million on 30 June 2015, €1 million on 31 December 2015, and a final payment of €1 million on 30 June 2016,” the statement read.
The announcement ends speculation surrounding the financial terms of the move, which had remained undisclosed since the transfer was completed earlier this month.
Demba Ba, 29, made the switch to Besiktas after an 18-month stint at Chelsea, where he scored several important goals despite limited playing time. The Senegalese international had joined the London club in January 2013 from Newcastle United.
Ba is expected to play a central role in Besiktas’s plans for the upcoming season, as the club looks to strengthen its squad both domestically and in European competition. He has already been warmly received by fans in Istanbul and will aim to lead the line for the Black Eagles as they push for silverware.
Besiktas are counting on Ba’s experience and goal-scoring pedigree to bolster their attack. His arrival is seen as a major coup for the club, especially after his high-profile performances in the English Premier League.
Ba, who has also played for Hoffenheim and West Ham United, is the latest in a series of high-profile names to move to Turkey, as the Süper Lig continues to attract international talent.
