Chelsea are close to finalizing a new contract with young English-Ghanaian defender Josh Acheampong, following a period of uncertainty over his future.
The 18-year-old, who had been frozen out of Enzo Maresca’s first-team squad, initially rejected a contract extension, which led to his exclusion from matchday selections.
However, recent talks have seen significant progress, with Chelsea now outlining their plans for Acheampong’s role at the club.
Negotiations are in the final stages, and both parties are expected to reach an agreement shortly. This new deal will secure Acheampong’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge, ending any doubts about his next steps.
Chelsea’s manager, Enzo Maresca, expressed his confidence in the winger’s future at the club. In an interview, Maresca confirmed the club’s affection for Acheampong, stating, “The club loves Josh. I love Josh. We are almost there for his new deal.”
Acheampong’s imminent contract renewal marks a positive turn in his career, with the player expected to remain a part of Chelsea’s plans moving forward.
Despite representing England at youth levels, he is still eligible to play for Ghana at senior level through his parents.
