Chelsea close in on Manu Kone deal as Jamie Gittens loan to Roma considered

Chelsea are close to reaching an agreement with Roma for the signing of France midfielder Manu Kone, according to Sky Sports, with negotiations entering an advanced stage during the final hours of the summer transfer window.

Talks between the two clubs have progressed significantly, and Chelsea are understood to be pushing strongly to complete a deal for the Roma midfielder before the transfer deadline.

Sky Sports reports that Chelsea have made an offer worth close to 60m euros for Kone. There is growing confidence that the transfer can be concluded before the market closes, although no final agreement has yet been confirmed.

The discussions between the clubs also include the possibility of Jamie Gittens moving in the opposite direction. The Chelsea winger could join Roma on loan for the remainder of the current season as part of the developing negotiations.

Roma had previously attempted to sign Gittens, but Chelsea rejected the club’s initial proposal. The situation has since changed as talks over Kone have advanced, with a temporary move for the English winger now being considered.

Chelsea’s interest in Kone comes as the future of Enzo Fernandez is linked with a possible transfer to Manchester City. The London club have therefore moved to strengthen their midfield before the end of the transfer window.

Kone, a France international, attracted attention during his appearances for his country at the 2026 World Cup. His performances have added to his profile as Chelsea assess a move for the midfielder in the closing stages of the summer market.

The proposed deal would see Chelsea focus on securing Kone while Roma explore whether Gittens could be brought in on loan. The two matters are being discussed between the clubs, with negotiations continuing as the deadline approaches.

Chelsea’s reported bid, worth almost 60m euros, reflects the club’s determination to add to their midfield options. At the same time, Roma’s earlier interest in Gittens has returned to the negotiations, creating the possibility of two linked moves between the clubs.

For now, the priority for Chelsea is to complete the agreement for Kone. Sky Sports says the talks have reached an advanced point and that confidence is increasing, while the potential loan transfer involving Gittens remains under discussion.

The French midfielder’s possible arrival would provide Chelsea with another option in the centre of the pitch at a time when uncertainty surrounds Fernandez’s future. Manchester City’s reported interest in the Argentina international has encouraged Chelsea to act before the transfer window shuts.

Roma’s pursuit of Gittens could also give the Italian club an opportunity to revisit a deal that Chelsea previously turned down. The winger’s move would be on loan for the current campaign, subject to the clubs reaching an agreement as part of the wider negotiations over Kone.
