Chelsea back Liam Rosenior long-term despite slump, no review planned until 2027

Chelsea FC have made a firm statement of intent over the future of head coach Liam Rosenior, with the club reportedly unwilling to consider his dismissal before a scheduled performance review in the summer of 2027.

The decision comes at a time when results have turned sharply against the London side. A run of four consecutive defeats across all competitions has heightened scrutiny, culminating in their exit from the UEFA Champions League and intensifying pressure on Rosenior.

Yet, rather than react in haste, the club’s hierarchy appear committed to a longer-term project, offering the 40-year-old a degree of job security rarely seen in recent years at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea currently sit sixth in the Premier League standings, a position that still leaves them within touching distance of the top five. The narrow gap to Liverpool FC underlines the congested nature of the race for European qualification, even as performances have dipped.

However, the margin for error remains slim, with another setback in their next fixture against Everton FC likely to push them further away from early-season expectations of a title challenge.

Despite these concerns, reports indicate the club has no intention of initiating a formal review of Rosenior’s work until 2027, effectively ruling out any imminent managerial change.

The approach signals a deliberate shift towards stability, particularly for a club that has cycled through managers at a rapid pace in recent campaigns.

Rosenior, who replaced Enzo Maresca in January, has struggled to arrest a slide in attacking output. Chelsea have failed to score in three consecutive matches for the first time since September 2023, while defensive solidity has also waned, with their last league clean sheet dating back to mid-January.

The international break may offer a timely reset, allowing Rosenior and his staff to address persistent issues on both ends of the pitch.
