Chelsea assess Emmanuel Emegha's future

Chelsea are weighing what to do with Emmanuel Emegha, with the club’s attacking picture having changed sharply since the deal to sign him from Strasbourg was agreed last September.

The Dutch-Nigerian striker was originally viewed as a long-term successor to Nicolas Jackson, but that plan now looks less straightforward.

Emegha’s 2025/26 season did not help his case. Hamstring and thigh problems limited him to just 10 Ligue 1 appearances for Strasbourg, where he scored four goals and missed the closing stages of their run to the UEFA Conference League semi-finals. His impending move to Chelsea also made life harder with Strasbourg fans.

The Blues are now reassessing their forward options without European competition, which leaves fewer chances to rotate the squad. Joao Pedro has also become an important part of the attack, while Jackson’s situation could still shape Emegha’s role.

Chelsea still like Emegha’s profile. He brings size, pace and the ability to run in behind defenders, qualities that could translate well in the Premier League. But with competition for places increasing, a loan or another season away from Stamford Bridge may now be the most sensible next step for his development.
