It is now official: Cheikh Ndoye underwent surgery on Thursday in Lyon, his club confirmed on Friday. The Senegalese midfielder suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament in his knee and will consequently miss the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
In the days prior to the procedure, Ndoye had been hesitant, hoping to manage his injury through treatment in order to participate in the tournament with Senegal. Ultimately, he opted for surgery to ensure a full recovery.
At 33 years old, Ndoye faces several months on the sidelines before he can return to competitive action, marking a significant setback for both the player and the national team.
