Former Black Stars coach, Charles Akonnor, has shed light on his eldest son’s, Charles-Jesaja Herrmann, eagerness to represent Ghana on the international football stage. Herrmann, currently plying his trade with SV Waldhof Mannheim in the German third division, has expressed a fervent desire to emulate his father’s legacy by donning the Black Stars jersey.
In an exclusive interview with Graphic Sports, Akonnor revealed the aspirations of his son, who had previously featured for the German U-17 team.
The seasoned coach acknowledged the potential challenges faced by Herrmann, given his current affiliation with a team in the lower-tier league.
“The eldest (Charles-Jesaja Herrmann) was also a national team player, who played at the under-17 level, and he now plays for a third division team. He is now ready to play for the Black Stars when he gets the opportunity,” Akonnor affirmed.
Despite Herrmann’s current status in the German third division, Akonnor, who also had a stint coaching Asante Kotoko, provided valuable advice to his son.
He emphasized the necessity for Herrmann to elevate his game and strive for excellence to enhance his prospects of earning a coveted spot in the national team.
“I told him to do more than what he is doing now. For the national team, it is not necessary to be in the third division; you have to be at the forefront and making waves to be considered a national team player; but for now, he is a little far from the national team,” Akonnor cautioned.
It is worth noting that Herrmann boasts a prior association with the German national teams, having represented his country at various youth levels, including U-15, U-16, U-18, and U-19. As the aspiring footballer navigates his career, the spotlight remains on his journey towards potential inclusion in the Ghanaian national squad.
