Chancel Mbemba recounts Marseille turmoil as he rebuilds form at Lille

Chancel Mbemba speaks openly about the turmoil he endured during his final season at Marseille, describing a period that tested him mentally before he revived his career at Lille.

The Congolese centre-back says his final year with OM turned into a personal struggle after the club’s management removed him from their plans. He explains that the situation left him searching for answers.

“Do I know why I fell out with Marseille and why I stayed on the sidelines? My lawyer knows, but I focus on football.

I suffered a year of torture in the press, moral torture… but I don’t know, I don’t know,” he said as he reflected on that chapter.

Mbemba joined Marseille in July 2022 on a three-season deal and impressed during his first two campaigns.

His third season, however, took a difficult turn as tensions grew behind the scenes and his involvement on the pitch declined.

He now finds new energy at Lille and reconnects with the form that once made him a key figure in Ligue 1.

He already records 11 appearances in all competitions and delivers one assist as he re-establishes his influence in defence.

Transfermarkt currently values him at €2 million, and his contract with Lille runs until June 2026.

He earns an annual salary of €2,730,000 as he continues to rebuild his momentum in a more stable environment.

Mbemba’s reflections highlight a turbulent period in his career, but his strong start at Lille signals a renewed sense of confidence and direction.
