CHAN U20 SEMIFINAL: NIGERIA AND GHANA SET FOR WEST AFRICAN DERBY SHOWDOWN
It’s semifinal day at the CHAN U20 Championship, and all eyes are on a classic West African rivalry: Nigeria vs. Ghana. This all-English-speaking derby promises fireworks, as both teams have a long-standing history in the competition.
Nigeria, dominant in the group stage, finished top of Group A with 7 points (2 wins and a draw) and boast the tournament’s best attack, having scored 9 goals. The Flying Eagles will be counting on the firepower of Taiwo Awoniyi and the leadership of Musa Mohammed to breach Ghana’s defense.
On the other hand, Ghana’s Black Satellites, under coach Sellas Tetteh, are chasing another title and aren’t fazed by their opponents. “I’m not embarrassed to face Nigeria, because they’re a team like any other,” Tetteh confidently stated ahead of the match.
This match also revives a bit of history. In 2013, Ghana edged out Nigeria in the semifinals of the same tournament. Will the Flying Eagles get their revenge, or will the Black Satellites soar again?
Kick-off is at 5 p.m. GMT. Let the battle begin.
