African Beach Soccer Championship: Senegal, Nigeria, Madagascar and Ivory Coast Reach Semis
The semi-final line-up for the 2025 African Beach Soccer Championship in Seychelles has been confirmed, with Nigeria set to face reigning champions Senegal, and surprise package Madagascar taking on Ivory Coast in the final four.
All eyes will be on the high-stakes encounters, with more than just a spot in the final at stake — the winners will also book their tickets to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Portugal later this year.
Senegal Squeeze Through
Senegal, the defending champions, narrowly avoided a shock early exit after a group-stage defeat to Ghana. Their progression was secured thanks to Madagascar’s win over Morocco, which edged the Lions through on goal difference.
Despite the scare, Mamadou Kamara and his teammates remain focused on reaching both the final and the World Cup. However, they face a formidable opponent in Nigeria, whose Sand Eagles have been in dominant form. The Nigerians cruised through the group stage with three wins from three and are seen as favourites heading into the semi-final.
Madagascar Emerging as Dark Horses
In the other semi-final, Madagascar will take on Côte d’Ivoire in what promises to be an intriguing contest. The Malagasy side has been one of the revelations of the tournament, winning all three of their group-stage matches and impressing with their attacking flair and tactical organisation.
Ivory Coast, meanwhile, will rely on in-form striker Kablan Aka, who produced a standout performance against Nigeria earlier in the competition. The Sand Elephants will hope his finishing touch can carry them past a confident Madagascar side.
Road to Portugal
The stakes could not be higher — both finalists will earn a place at the 2025 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Portugal. For Senegal and Nigeria, the goal is to reassert dominance on the continental and global stage, while Madagascar and Ivory Coast are looking to continue their inspiring runs and make history.
Classification Matches
Before the semi-finals, the competition will feature classification matches to determine the final standings. Hosts Seychelles will face Ghana, while Egypt take on Morocco in battles for 5th to 8th place.
