Tanzania has taken control of Group B at the 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Nations Champions (CHAN) following a second victory at the tournament against Mauritania.
The Tanzanians kicked off their campaign at the tournament with a pulsating 2-0 victory against Burkina Faso.
Today, the side locked horns with Mauritania in their second Group B match at the tournament.
In the game played at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium, both Tanzania and Mauritania put up a top performance in their bid to bag all three points.
Despite the best efforts of the teams in the first half, neither side could find the back of the net and had to settle for a draw at halftime.
After recess, the two teams came in to give their all. While Mauritania had their chances, they could not utilise them and paid for it late in the match.
Tanzania secured all three points in the 89th minute when Shomari Kapombe equalised after an assist from Iddi Seleman.
The win means Tanzania stays top of the Group B standings with six points, enough to take the side into the knockout stage of the tournament.
